The Tour Guide Chronicles

A Personal Paranormal Experience

Posted: January 05, 2012

Several years ago, I was in the pen late at night after all of the haunted house visitors and employees had left the building. A coworker and I were cleaning makeup brushes in a space that once functioned as the prison’s parole office. I can assure you that things were very quiet; no one else was in the building.

Then all of a sudden, from the back of the room, we heard a series of noises. It sounded like someone was moving items around on a table, perhaps shuffling papers looking for a set of keys or diligently working on something. I was FROZEN with fear because, up until this point in my life, I was not sure about the existence of ghosts or paranormal activity of any kind.

The sounds went on for about 15 seconds, which seemed like FOREVER! When they finally stopped, my coworker and I stared at each other with petrified looks. She asked me, "Do you want to leave the prison?" And without saying words, I nodded my head as if to say, "Heck yes!"

We linked arms, walked out very quickly, and locked the gate behind us. I was so scared that I would not say a word until I stepped into London Grill (a bar & restaurant down the street). I definitely needed a drink after that!

Who knows what we heard. Perhaps it was the spirit of a guard processing inmates. Perhaps it was some type of energy stuck in time that wanted us to know its presence. But whatever it was, I sure wanted it to know that we were leaving the pen for the night!
